I don't know if I'll ever be able to experience life in the elegant way Vernon does, it's such an enchanting outlook.....seems to be innaccessible to the ordinary mind, though on close examination one will find much overlap with stoicism (which does seems within reach as a life-view) but anyway the writing is beautiful insofar as he makes (what is for me) a mind-boggling topic come through with logic yet still lofty, you wish you could have the guy nearby as a friend, sadly he died in '92 I believe. For those familiar with Peter Ralston, you'll find many parallels though style quite different....probably, like Ralston's books, one read is insuffienct. Probably I'll need to read it 2 or 3 times....

I was at my OLD, small local library and came across this book. It has changed my life IMMENSELY. So I bought 3 copies from , one for me to keep and two to share with friends. I was raised Christian, but I am not religious- more spiritual. While the title seems a little out there, as soon as you start reading it, you get drawn in by the easy to read, common sense language. It is mildly New Age, but not something that Christians would run from. I believe in my abilities to take in what's useful and ignore the things that might not agree with my beliefs. But what I did realize while reading this book is just how closed minded we are taught to be in the church, and how much better off we would be if we would give things a chance. After reading this book, I am a much happier person, and MUCH less stressed. At first it was a conscious effort, and then it just came naturally. The book is NOT about religion, but about how our minds hold everything we need in order to live a happy, content life. And it is achievable for EVERYONE. It makes so much sense...
Let those you have ears to hear, hear. An easy read for a non-dualistic spirituality. Makes similar points as A Course in Miracles, but in a simpler manner. Needs to be read more than once... twice ... three times!
This book can change your life. We create so much pain in our own life without even knowing it! This book is very helpful to learning how to be a happy and decent human being. Clearly written. One page sections throughout the book so you can just read for a short time and frequently.
This is my all-time favorite book. Whenever I have a problem with people or life in general, I pick up this book and it helps me remind myself how to live life stress free. I bought this book the first time in the 1970's and wore it out, so I ordered myself a new one. I have also given it as a gift.

Vernon Howard's most important book. This is the backbone the meat of all his books. I've had many copies of this book. Some I've given away, some I've worn out. For the true seeker of mystical wisdom this book is a must. Howard KNEW what he wrote about.
